Why do two or more phones ring simultaneously for the same incoming call?
Incoming calls can be directed to more than one party by using call groups. Call groups have members and an extension. An incoming call to a call group extension rings the call group members' phones either simultaneously or sequentially. There are three types of call groups:
- BSA (Bridge Station Appearance) groups: Associated with a user's extension. Multiple phones ring simultaneously when a call comes in to the user extension.
- Broadcast group: Multiple phones ring simultaneously when a call comes in to the broadcast group extension.
- Hunt group: Multiple phones ring in sequence when a call comes in to the hunt group extension.
In all cases, the phone that is first picked up answers the call and stops all of the other phones from ringing. Only the administrator can add a call group or change the members of an existing call group.
To determine whether you are a member of a call group, select My Call Groups from the web interface. All the call groups of which you are a member are listed, including the call group extension, type, and your status within the call group. For hunt groups and broadcast groups, you can log out of the group by clicking on the "Logged In" status entry. (You can log back in by clicking on the "Logged Out" status entry.)
If you are an administrator, you can add or remove members from call groups by following these steps:
- Log in to the web interface as administrator.
- Select Call Groups from the left menu. This will display all the call groups in your company.
- Click on the call group you are interested in.
- Use the << and >> arrows to move users in or out of the call group
