If you are considering a VoIP solution for your business, is your current bandwidth sufficient?
- Start the speed test above and note your upload speed and your download speed. The lowest speed is the most important which usually is your upload speed.
- Determine your desired number of concurrent voice calls. Take 75% of your lowest speed (upload or download) and divide by 80Kbps (typical size of a voice call).
If the result is lower than the number of concurrent calls you might need to place then your speed is not sufficient.
Please note that this is a very basic test and it will not account for data loss due to internet browsing, downloads, email usage or other factors that might interfere with your connection. Further the test is only measuring your connection speed at this very moment and the download / upload speed you achieve might not be constant over time.
